Attendance Allowance Success

A client asked if we could help him claim Attendance Allowance.  He had been turned down previously but we talked to him about what problems his disabilities caused with daily living and we decided to give it a go.

We went to his home filled in the form and sent it off. He received a letter saying the DWP did not think he was eligible.  We asked the DWP to look at their decision again but they kept to their original decision.  So we then decided to take it to appeal.

We collected evidence from carers and his medical professionals and took that with us to the appeal in Bristol.  It was nerve racking and the client said he would never have done it without our help and support, but we won the appeal and the client was awarded his Attendance Allowance and it was backdated to the date we filled in the application form.  He also is now eligible for more pension credit and we helped him apply for that as well.  He is now better off by approx £100 per week and got backdated benefit of over £4000.  He was delighted and so were we.
